Blaze offers the opportunity to be a part of a development-focussed club that continues to grow each year on and off the court.
Blaze offer a full pathway with squads at under 12, under 14, under 16, under 18, seniors and masters. The club competes in both the regional and national leagues.
Established in 1962, the club has a strong footing in the local community and now delivers weekly coaching sessions to over 100 players.
Recently the club has enjoyed considerable success in its youth programme, with numerous players selected onto the national pathway in basketballscotland’s Talent Development Programme or invited to trial with the Scotland national squads.
Each year we have a large number of players, both male and female that are Selected to the Scotland National Squads.
The club assembles a Masters team each year that compete in the annual British Masters tournament and in 2010 took this a step further by entering a team in the Lothian senior 2nd Division making then one of the very few Masters teams in Britain to compete in a weekly senior league.
It is now possible for a young player to begin playing for Blaze around age 10 and continue playing for the club well into their 40’s (and further in some cases…). This is helping create a family environment at the club and offers a truly unique opportunity for lifelong participation in basketball.
Our partnership with Active Schools has grown to include the Boroughmuir, Gillespie’s, Tynecastle and Liberton clusters. The club provides coaching to the cluster squads, facilitating their enter in the Edinburgh Cluster Challenge League.
The Club has recently been selected by the City of Edinburgh Council to take forward a long-term lease on The Crags Sports Centre which will be a genuine home court for the club and a basis for extended basketball and community development.
Founded in 1962, Boroughmuir Basketball Club has a storied tradition in British basketball and has contributed to the Edinburgh community ever since. The club’s heritage is introduced here.
The under 12 and under 14 squads compete in the East & Central Regional League for their age groups with the best under 14 players also combined into one team for the Under 16 East & Central Regional League.
The under 16 squad play in both the East & Central Regional League and the Scottish National League Division 1. The under 18 squad also competes in the Scottish National League Division 1 and several players also play for the senior team in Lothian senior Division 1 and Division 2 teams.
At the senior level, the club has now grown to four senior teams. A young senior team and a Masters team compete in Lothian Division 2 while the club’s top squad plays in the Lothian League Division 1 and the Senior Scottish National League.
The club is open for all players and coaches who wish to try out the club. If sqauds are full it may not be possible to offer every new player a place in the club. We welcome enquires from new and experienced players any time.
